Narali Pornima 2024

The Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Goa, celebrated Narali Poornima on 19/08/2024 by offering traditional coconut to the Sea Lord at the hands of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Shri. Nilkanth Halarnkar, Mayor of City of Corporation of Panaji, Shri. Rohit Joe Monserrate, Secretary of Fisheries, Shri. E. Vallavan, IAS, and Director of Fisheries Dr. Shamila Monteiro.

The ceremony included an annual Satyanarayan Pooja for a fruitful fishing season.

On the Occasion of Narali Poornima, Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Goa launched 3 pilot projects which are aimed to create self employment and employment generation and shall also be eco friendly and sustainable towards nature.

The following are the 3 projects inaugurated:

  1. Matsya Vahini is an ECO friendly moveable fish Kiosk with advanced features to improve the transportation of fish from landing sites to markets, ensuring freshness and reducing post-harvest losses.
  2. Matsya Aahar is a unique fish retail outlet and an air conditioned restaurant made with shipping container with live fish vending and also live barbeque on the terrace.
  3. Artificial reefs is an innovative project aimed at enhancing marine biodiversity and supporting the regeneration of fish stocks by deploying artificial reefs along the Goan coastline. As of now, three modules;  Triangle, Wellring & Grouper have been designed.

Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Goa sanctioned units to Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) Beneficiaries under the following Schemes:

  1. Financial Assistance for Medium Scale Ornamental fish Rearing Unit (Marine and Fresh Water)
  2. Financial Assitance to Purchase Fish Kiosk including Kiosk for Ornamental/ Aquarium fishes
  3. Financial Assistance for Purchase of Motorcycle with Ice Box
  4. Financial Assistance for Purchase of Three Wheeler with Ice Box
