Short Term Training Programme on Crab Culture

The Directorate of Fisheries had conducted three days Short Term Training Course on Crab Culture on 28th to 30th July 2016 at Fishermen Training Centre of this Directorate at Ela Dhauji Old Goa and field visit was undertaken on 29/07/2016 at Sindhudurg District Maharashtra.
The short term training programme was conducted in collaboration with Marine Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA). The experts from MPEDA, Karwar & RGCA, Kerela had come to deliver a lecture on Crab Culture. The main purpose of the training was to encourage the fisher youth, entrepreneurs to take up crab culture as their business and improve their livelihood.
The training programme was inaugurated by Shri. Ram Adhar Gupta, Deputy Director (Aqua) MPEDA, SRC, Karwar and Dr. Smita Mazumdar, Supdt. of Fisheries.
The lecture was delivered by Shri. Mangesh Gawade on Biology, Husbandry, Physiology, Ecology/Genetics, spawning and Breeding characteristics and production of mud crab seed in Hatchery and Soft shell crab production techniques, sampling and stock assessment, Economics of farm crab and pond & creek based culture was delivered by Shri. Kedar Palav. The lecture on financial assistance for setting up of crab farming unit in Goa was delivered by Dr. Smita Mazumdar and Shri. T.T. Puntirajan, RGCA delivered lecture on Crab Farming.
A total of 42 no. of participants from the different places of Goa attended the training programme. The training programme was concluded successfully.
