The Directorate of Fisheries, Goa, organised three-day training program on Better Management Practices and Diversification in Aquaculture in collaboration with Marine Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Regional Office Mangalore at the Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (GIPARD) from July 24th to 26th, 2024. The event was officially inaugurated by Superintendent of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries, Goa, and attended by 56 eager trainees.
The curriculum included:
- Better Management Practices (BMPs) in Aquaculture
- Farm Enrolment, Aquaculture Diversification, and Major Species
- PMMSY Schemes
- Infrastructure and Technological Innovations (RAS & Biofloc)
The sessions were led by Shri. S. Subramaniyan, Assistant Director, MPEDA Mangalore, Dr. Vishnudas Gunaga, Assistant Director (Rtd.), MPEDA and Shri. Chandresh Haldankar, Superintendent of Fisheries. Participants were awarded certificates upon the successful completion of the training.
Department of Fisheries in collaboration with Fishery Survey of India has organized the Seminar on “Space based observation: Improving Fisheries Sector” on occasion of “National Space Day 2024” on 7t August 2024 at Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco-Goa. The seminar was graced by DDG, Fishery Survey of India, Director of Fisheries, Dr. Shamila Monteiro and Zonal Director, Fishery Survey of India, Mormugao Zonal base, Dr. S. Ramachandran. In the seminar, 105 fishermen from fisheries society of Mormugao along with department and FSI officials were present. Official from Department of Fisheries, Government of India also attended the seminar. The lecture was delivered by ISRO scientists, Smt. Deepika Roy who gave brief information on potential Fishing zone and the demonstration on transponders and its application was explained by Smt. Vibha Kumari.
On July 26, 2024, a Community Interaction Program (CIP) was held at Malim jetty, Betim in collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy. The program focused on safety and security of the fishermen at sea and on educating the local fishing community about their essential role in rescuing entangled endangered marine species and preserving ecosystems through the ghost net retrieval program.
