Mussel Culture

The Department of Fisheries, carried pout a pilot project for Mussel Culture at Akhada, St. Estevan, aimed at exploring sustainable aquaculture and livelihood opportunities for local communities. Started in 2022–2023 at Akhada, St. Estevam Island, Old Goa. Species: Perna viridis (Green Mussel).

Setup:

35 ropes seeded with mussel spat (1–1.5 cm size, 4–6 weeks old).

Installed on a 3×3 m floating rack system.
